Camp Day 1

Carl and I are discovering that it's pretty strange not to see or hear from Alden all day - but we are having fun looking for photos of him in the camp blog and trying to guess what he's doing. Meanwhile, back on the home front, Soren has declared that he'll be sleeping in our room every night - which is just fine with us.

Camp Drop off

We've been enjoying our summer to the fullest (and also working at our jobs to our fullest) and therefore a little negligent of our family blog. However, today warrants a blog post, as we just dropped our big kid off for his first week of sleep away camp. Thanks to his Chicago cousins, Alden was well prepped for what to expect, but Carl and I were not really prepared for how great it all seemed: terrific counselors, a beautiful setting, great camp activities to choose, a very nice bunk, and really nice bunkmates. He was nervous but brave, said an easy goodbye, and smiled as we waved at the door. We are so excited for him (and a little envious after seeing how much fun camp looked) and we're already looking forward to seeing him next weekend at the closing ceremony. As we drove away, Soren said he wanted to go to sleep away camp, too. Maybe another year. :)

Scenes from the road

Pit stop at the windmills; trading candy by flashlight. Vacation is healing immediately.
