Halloween Canoe Ride!

We met up with our friends Alexander, Zuzanna, and their daughter Miskha for a canoe ride
around the Huron River, stopping at various costumed stations to pick up treats.
The paddle-boating grim reapers were our favorite...

Free to be...

Alden:  "Mommy, how did the baby get into your belly?"
Me:  "It wasn't always in my belly, it started growing in there."
Alden:  "But how did it move in to your belly?"

[Carl and I look at each other, but then Carl tells me I'm on my
own since the question was directed at me first -- thanks, Carl.]

Me:  "Well, daddy and I made the baby together and then it started growing in my belly."
Alden:  "But how did you make the baby?"

[More looks.  Still no help from Carl.]

Me:  "Well...  (awkward pause), daddy has a part of his body that fits into my body and that makes the baby.  Just like when you were born, daddy and I made you together."
Alden:  "But HOW does daddy's part fit into your body?"

[Carl, who looks like he is enjoying this immensely, offers no help whatsoever and tells me I'm on a roll.]

Me:  "Well, he has a part that is made especially to fit.  How about you finish your toast now?"
Alden:  "Okay."

New England in the Fall

Alden and mom took a quick trip to Massachusetts to visit the Grandparents Feldman and get a taste of Autumn in New England. Despite some rainy weather, we had a great time.  We loved seeing all our friends out there -- even those whose company we forgot to document in pictures. Some photos are here:

3rd birthday

Alden had his 3rd birthday last weekend - it was off the hook.  Sheet cakes, birthday serenades played on a saw, 4 pounds of mac and cheese, a (mini) keg of Michigan beer, and a babysitter (and two 12 year old babysitters-in-training) to watch the kids in the basement [far below] during the bluegrass band performance.  It only took a few weeks of planning and clean-up, all worth it.  ..
