Alden had a birthday party at local Wasem Fruit Farm yesterday -- we had a great time with friends who came out to celebrate with us, picking apples, running through the fields, eating 5 dozen freshly made doughnuts (!), and playing on all the farm toys. Today (photos at the bottom), we're having a more relaxed day at home while it's suddenly rainy and cold outside. Thanks to lots of family members who sent some wonderful cards and gifts that are keeping Alden entertained while we (sort of) read the paper. Happy birthday, Alden!

Scenes from the Homefront
In case anyone is missing Soren or me, I thought I'd put up a few photos of the Ann Arbor contingency. The one above was taken at a recent birthday party -- not sure what was going on with Soren's outfit (the two kinds of stripes were balanced by the rainbow slippers visible in one of the photos below)... I'm pretty sure Carl dressed him that day.
Muskoka!
Sam has been keeping me happy with multiple photos of my boys up in Muskoka this week. Above is Alden tucked into bed on his sleeping porch (where the indoor temperature hovered around 35 degrees last night!). Below, check out the color of the sky today as Alden and Carl spent some time in and around the lakes... Sorry not to be up there with you all!

Quiet House
It's a quiet house tonight -- Carl and Alden set off this afternoon for Muskoka, while Soren and I stayed back at the homefront. It's hard to describe the silence here now that I've put Soren to bed for the evening... Kind of nice, but definitely lonely. We miss you already, boys, despite the mess that is still here to pick up from your whilrlwind of playing and packing earlier in the day. :) XO, Mom.

mashed potatoes
Soren shares his first personal helping of mashed potatoes. What a generous dude.

Thank you, Grandparents Feldman!
We were so happy to have Grandma Lois and Grandpa Fred come visit us (read: take care of us) for our now annual summer visit. They are a whirling machine of activity when they are here -- looking after our kids, making meals, doing laundry, washing dishes, and endlessly updating this old house. Grandpa Fred once again made his way through a very long do-to list and our home continues to become more and more comfortable with each and every visit he makes to Ann Arbor. Thank you guys for a lovely visit despite the chaos of our lives these days. We, and our kids, love you!
